Do you use audiobooks in your home? They have become our new favorite thing. After discovering, I'm sure later than we should have, the wonderful websites available to download free audiobooks, we turned over my old iPod to Avarie as a source for a new medium for reading. She is now fully versed in operating the iPod, plugging into her bedside clock (which just HAPPENED to have an MP3 jack - yay!) and how to find the book she is listening to and using it. Equipped with headphones, she has ... read more
Why Lapbooks are Great!
In the spirit of finishing our Latin lapbook, and having a friend ask me about why we do them so often. I decided to write a post about lapbooks. Then I found a great post at Heart of Wisdom talking about why lapbooking works that I thought I would share. Lapbooking has been great for us. We use them to have fun working through a subject as well as for review after we have finished. The crafty side corresponds with the learning. We discuss what we are doing while we are doing it, which is ... read more

I in the process of putting together my own Latin lapbook that I will share soon.++++ (08/14/14) As we continue on our review of our Latin vocabulary of the year and integrate it with our Prima Latina, I decided that this Latin Lapbook for Cycle 3 memory work that I found would be just the right way to add a little spice to our Latin vocabulary. If you read the blog, you know that Avarie ... read more
Fun with the Elements!!
Over at Half a Hundred Acre Woods, she is getting creative with Atomic Cookies! Check them out. Definitely on the agenda soon. We started our homemade element flash cards, which Avarie loves. We prefer them to the ones we have found so far since most of the ones you can make or purchase are for older students. Having the basics on our cards is the best for us. And I like having Avarie make them because it helps her remember them. Love the Periodic Table of Elements that she shares. I had ... read more
Homemade Kids Valentine’s Day Cards
This year my daughter told me that she did not want to buy Valentine's Day cards at the store. She stated that she wanted to MAKE cards for her friends. This sounded like a small order at first until she told me what she had in mind. "Can I sew my friends something special?" She said. "Oh, and what could I make the boys, they might not like something that is sewed." Okay....so off to the Internet to figure out something interesting. Did I mention that sewing lessons have been ... read more

Internet Safety – Freebie!
As homeschoolers we tend to introduce our children to the Internet early. In most cases, we do this to do courses, research topics, or play educational games. Though I'm sure, like me, you use a lot of Internet precautions such as parental controls and having constant oversight of their internet activity. We definitely do not allow computer work without permission and without monitoring Kid Brillance has a ebook on Internet Safety that has some great hints to help you ensure your kids are ... read more
Superbowl Village 2012 – Once in a Lifetime Experiences
One of the best things to me about homeschooling is how we can take any day and make it a "real life experience" day. That being said, Tuesday was one of those days. We spent the afternoon at Superbowl Village, Indianapolis Indiana. After battling my personal demons of "do I REALLY want to drag 2 kids, a stroller, a backpack, some snacks, the camera, coats, drinks, and me into a crowd of who know how many and go downtown" I decided that the Superbowl Village here in Indianapolis was something ... read more
