I’ve always thought of New Years resolutions as a bird. Birds fly around, land for a while, take off again, fly around with seemingly little purpose and, sometimes, CRASH — right into the glass window!
I mentioned that I don’t really do “resolutions” but I do like to set goals for the new year. I did set some goals with regard to my personal life as well as our school. So, as the month closes, I thought I would look at them and see what we have gotten going and what already lost flight or – BAM – crashed into the glass window.
Well, I wanted to make changes to our daily schedule and that we have done. We are now using smaller time frames for each subject and then moving on. Alternating seat work with activity work. For instance, at the table for math but then up for piano and then in the chair for a story and then back to the table for language art and then up for exercise and then back for Bible and then a break then back to the table for spelling etc. This has worked well. And boy does the day fly by.
However, I had planned to implement work pockets for this (see other post) but I haven’t gotten any further than hanging the system and starting on the cards so…maybe eventually so I guess that goal is in the works so its flying around the house aimlessly I suppose but hasn’t hit the glass yet.
Exercise is still flying around the room with little direction but occasionally landing where it needs to be. We have a few other goals in this category.
Actually, upon examination the only thing that truly has his the glass window with a big splat is my water and diet coke intact. I had a goal to cut down my diet coke intake and replace it with water. We all know that is healthier but sadly, that bird has flown directly into the plate glass window. Oh well, maybe next year!
How about you? Do you have any goals that you have set and they haven’t taken flight? Do you plan to continue with them or have you decided they are a lost cause? I’d love to hear about them.
