Do you use audiobooks in your home? They have become our new favorite thing. After discovering, I’m sure later than we should have, the wonderful websites available to download free audiobooks, we turned over my old iPod to Avarie as a source for a new medium for reading.
She is now fully versed in operating the iPod, plugging into her bedside clock (which just HAPPENED to have an MP3 jack – yay!) and how to find the book she is listening to and using it. Equipped with headphones, she has learned how to read the battery life and get it charged up for use.
She plays legos while listening, plays Barbies while listening, sketches and does stickers while listening, or she just listens. (The picture is of her Lego “Secret Garden” recreation while listening to “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett.) She has taken to listening to them whenever she has a chance. She is now on “Swiss Family Robinson” by Johann David Wyss.
I started with www.booksshouldbefree.com and loaded up the iPod. It’s great! I also have some on the computer that we listen to in the afternoon as a family as well. We are really enjoying the audiobooks. I’m addicted. Now I’m looking for some for me in the car as well.
Here is a list of websites I have found for free audiobook downloads if you are interested.
