Thanks to one of my favorite lapbook resources, homeschoolshare.com, Avarie and I finished up our lapbook to go along with the completion of our reading of The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes.
The book is a part of Sonlight Core A reading, which we have been using this year for our literature. A story about classroom bullying, The Hundred Dresses is about a Polish immigrant student named Wanda that is teased by fellow classmates because she wears the same dress each day. When Wanda claims she has a hundred dresses at home, the teasing becomes incessant. The book tackles very lightly and tastefully the teasing, bullying, and the fear of other students to be teased as well for not teasing Wanda.
Along with the free lapbook templates that were shared on Homeschool Share, the book allowed us to study such topics as what friendship really is, why teasing is not acceptable, how to tackle teasing and how we should treat other people. In addition, we briefly studied Poland and its culture.
We very much enjoyed the book and I am glad that we were introduced to it. In addition, the lapbook was nicely done. We added a few things of our own, and left out a few more complicated studies that I felt were not on my daughters level. We love lapbooks in our house and really feel it helps us bring together the books we read.
Have you read The Hundred Dresses? What did you child think about it?
