Something every homeschooler should consider is tailoring their curriculum to each child’s learning style. This can be challenging when you are schooling multiple children but it’s important and can make for a more successful schooling experience.
One of the reasons that we homeschool is so we can help our children learn to the best of their abilities, ensuring we tailor our school to their needs and interests. Tailoring our school to each child’s learning style is one of the best ways to do that – it is the luxury that a public or private school does not have when educating so many students at once.
Many books can help you learn your child’s learning style. There are also online assessments available. (You can read my review of Kidzmet, whose website has a free personality learning style test available.) You can also just watch your kids and see which subjects they do the best in and how they learn. Do they do best learning from songs, games, writing it down? Which subject is their best and why? Observe and be prepared to be surprised.
Every child learns differently so it can be important to their success in school to understand how they best learn. Tailoring your homeschool to your children’s learning styles can be challenging but it can be very good step to ensuring you have a successful homeschool year – successful school experience.
