A Nation Adrift – A New Liberty Videos Review

As a family of history lovers, I looked forward to the opportunity to view A Nation Adrift from New Liberty Videos. My family has a strong interest in history and we have a strong Christian, historical emphasis in our homeschool. Having the opportunity to review New Liberty Videos Christian documentary, A Nation Adrift, seemed like something that would be of interest to our family.

Who is New Liberty Videos

New Liberty Videos was founded by a husband a wife team, Brian and Marilyn Barkley. Brian Barkley was in the movie production business for many years and even worked for Universal Studios at one time. He and his wife have been making Christian DVDs and Christian documentaries for several years. A Nation Adrift is one of the Christian documentaries that he has been working on. New Liberty Videos is a collection of Christian DVDs that explores American history and current political views from a Christian perspective.

What is A Nation Adrift
A Nation Adrift is a documentary about the American history from a Christian perspective. In fact, it’s almost the history of America in timeline format accounting for the Christian foundation of America. Beginning with Christopher Columbus (actually, beginning with Biblical references) to present day, the DVD tells the story of how God has guided our country and its leaders and founders.
Overall
This video is intended for teenagers and adults. Since we have younger children, we did not share it with them. It was a very detailed and interesting documentary about our nation’s Christian heritage. There were many new insights into the guidance given to our Founding Fathers and how the church and Christianity has shaped our nation.

There was also some interesting opinions about other people that have shaped who we have become throughout the decades like Margaret Sanger (the founder of Planned Parenthood) and those that founded the ACLU. It was quite shocking in places to hear some of the quotes from people during these early years.

We especially liked the historic footage, pictures, and real quotations that are used throughout the video. The timeline moves fast though. At times it seemed as soon as you heard a date and got a sense of what was being discussed the next date or date range was called out. But it was fascinating to see how quickly life changed over time.

This is a definite Christian documentary – no holds barred on the clear Christian perspective. Definitely not something your kids would see in a public school setting. Though I don’t recommend it for young children, it would definitely be something to watch and discuss (probably at length) with your teenagers.
