Famous Men of Rome – Memoria Press Review

Memoria Press is, by far, one of my favorite vendors and we recently had the pleasure of reviewing one of their history products – Famous Men of Rome Set . Like all their products, the books are quality, the pictures are clear and colorful, and the text is easy to understand. Additionally, their products are interesting and fun, which makes it an all around great homeschool curriculum addition.

What We Received

We received the Famous Men of Rome Set which is recommended for Grades 4 through 8. The Famous Men of Rome Set includes a Text, Student Workbook, and Teacher Manual.

How It Works and What We Received

The lessons are set up to be completed a lesson per week. There are 30 lessons included in program and each lesson includes stories about the famous men of Rome includes the drama and action one would expect from Ancient Roman history. Additionally, each lesson includes famous quotes, vocabulary works, questions to test the students comprehension of the story they read and a drill to quiz the student on key people and places discussed in the story.

There is also an activates section included with each lesson that includes ideas for a research project. An appendix includes maps of ancient Rome, Italy and Europe, a “Who Said That?” worksheet, a timeline (beginning with Rome’s founding), drill questions and drawing pages, which can be used to supplement and go deeper into the subjects of interest.

We started by reading the lesson on the 1st day together. The second day I had my daughter, age 10, read the lesson to herself and go over the comprehension questions. The next day we did some of the additional drills and activities. We ended up using it 3 to 4 days each week covering the lesson text.

Overall

The story was engaging. The accompanying illustrations were colorful, well done, and supportive. The famous quotes were interesting and the comprehension questions were a great discussion of the topic covered in the story.

We enjoyed the research project as well as the drawing pages. As a classical educating family, we truly enjoyed referring to the timeline as well as the maps and used them with each lesson we covered.

We will definitely continue with our study of Famous Men of Rome and were certainly not disappointed in the quality and the content of this wonderful curriculum from Memoria Press .
