If you have not heard of Brinkman Adventures, it is a missionary family who has made audio adventure CDs to tell of their missionary adventures and the adventures of other missionaries and people they have come across through the years. They had had some interesting adventures and met some interesting people, that is for sure.
The kids and I primarily listened to these while in the car driving around during the week. The kids were NOT happy when we had to stop in the middle of a story but we really enjoyed them.
Being that the stories presented on the audio CD are true, or based on true stories, it made for some interesting and great family conversations. Sometimes we had to stop in the middle of a story to discuss what was happening because the kids had questions, especially my 6 year old. But, in my opinion, that is great because it inspired questions and great conversations.
For instance, the first episode on The Brinkman Adventures: Season 3, entitled God’s Mule, was about Tomas who wanted to do God’s work, which led him to passing out Bible’s, even in places where this was not allowed. But what really spurred conversation for my kids was that his family was VERY much against him doing missionary work. They had paid for an education at an ivy league school in the US. When he wanted to drop out and be a missionary, his parents were not supportive and very angry. We discussed how difficult this would be and how so many people have had to go in the way the Lord has directed them, even when their own family does not understand. Of course, the best part of the conversation was when they asked if they wanted to be missionaries if we would support them or be like Tomas’s parents and we got to tell them how much we would support them no matter what and feel its important to go on the path the Lord leads them. Exciting conversations!
The Brinkman Adventures: Season 3 has 12 new episodes. The is 5 hours of adventure! It is available on 4 CDs (which is what we received to review) or as an Mp3 download.
Episodes include…
God’s Mule
Mountain Mover
The Silent Ambassador

A Saint’s Story, Pt. 1
A Saint’s Story, Pt. 2

Missionary Tourist, Pt. 1
Missionary Tourist Pt. 2
There are funny little stories peppered throughout the stories. We liked Man-up and Busy Bees and the Bullhorn particularly. The funny stories are about the kids or other in the stories that make the stories very real and not just “preaching” per se. They are definitely not just a preaching story of missionary work. They are real stories (some have been dramatized a little to spice them up) but they show the real struggles of today’s missionaries, the real miracles you can see God in in the stories, and the real side of being missionaries.
We really enjoyed the stories and look forward to listening to them again. The kids have asked for them to migrate from the car to the bedroom for before bed stories, which is the plan. We may even have to check out the other episodes available on their website.
