Books are a very important part of our homeschool. I would say they are imperative to most homeschools. We have a TON of books, and I love that we have a variety of books on many subjects. Math included. So having the opportunity to review Rabbits, Rabbits Everywhere: A Fibonacci Tale from Ann McCallum Books was great fun. We are always looking for new, fun books to add to our collection.
Math is about text books, right? Well, no…you can learn math through other ways as well. And Ann McCallum Books helps with this with Rabbits, Rabbits Everywhere: A Fibonacci Tale.
Rabbits, Rabbits Everywhere: A Fibonacci Tale is about the Pied Piper in the town of Chee, which is famous for their cabbages, and Amanda, who found the first rabbits in Chee and found that they increase every two days. The storyline helps the reader understand the Fibonacci sequence and how it works.
This is a complicated math sequence that is explained in a fun and simple way. My children, 10, 6, and 2, all enjoyed the book. Obviously, each student enjoyed the book at their own level, which is what is great about Rabbits, Rabbits Everywhere. It’s a fun story in itself, about rabbits, nonetheless, which is what was appealing to the 2 year old. And the basic counting by 2s that was throughout is great for my 6 year old who is working on skip counting this year. He had a great time working through the 2s in the book.
My 10 year old really got into the math in the story. I loved to see her like the math and find the connections in the Fibonacci sequence throughout. She has never been a huge math person so seeing her figure things out through the book was great. Since she loves reading and being read to, this was a good fit for her.
The book pointed out that you can see these advanced mathematics principle, like the Fibonacci sequence, everywhere around us. In flower, animals, etc. So we did spend some time talking about this and making observations around us that connected us to the Fibonacci sequence.
We were able to read through the story in one sitting. It was fun and the kids enjoyed it. They asked for it to be read to them again and my 10 year old has read it a couple of times on her own since we received it. Overall, I think reading Rabbits, Rabbits Everywhere: A Fibonacci Tale was a hit.
