Are your kids excited it’s December? Mine are counting down to Christmas already and excited for December to begin.
Why? Well, because it’s full of traditions and fun that no other month brings. Fun books, lots of crafts, extra sweets, fun field trips, Christmas decorating, gifts, family, and, of course, less school!
So, it’s December. What are you doing this month to make it special?
These are some of the things we have going on this month that the kid are looking forward to!
Snow – They are hoping for snow. Not much I can do about that if it DOESN’T snow, but we can have fun preparing for snow. If it doesn’t snow, we will be going ice skating a little more to get into the holiday mood.
Cocoa – The kids love hot chocolate and we like to have a little extra hot chocolate in December. Throw in some marshmallows or candy canes into the cocoa for an extra treat!
Crafts – We are making popcorn garland for the tree, paper snowflakes for the windows, and a gum drop wreath for the door. I’m sure there will be some other crafts but these 3 are some of our favorite traditional crafts for our family.
Serving – We will be making holiday cards and cookies for the shutins from our church and a few of our neighbors. A few random acts of kindness thrown in throughout the month will keep us focused on the giving part of the season.
Field Trips – We always go to our local Children’s Museum (The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis) for their Jolly Days exhibit. It includes indoor sock skating, puff ball snowball fights, pretend cookie decorating, and a giant yuletide slide from the 2nd floor to the lobby and, of course, a visit with Santa. There are always a lot of extras to look forward to. This is a fun tradition. (If you are within driving distance of Indianapolis, I HIGHLY recommend a Christmas time visit.) We also love visited the zoo at Christmas. They decorate it beautifully and we get to see different animals enjoying the cooler climates!
Countdown – We love counting down to Christmas. This year as we mark off the calendar the kids will take turns picking the Christmas books before bed and enjoy a Christmas cookie each night while we read. We are making up the cookies on December 1st together (shhhh, don’t tell them they are sugar free cookies :))
What are your December plans? I would love to hear what your family does special this month.
