We received the Beginner Student and Beginner Student Traceable version of Resurrection to review. Having used Grapevine Studies products before, we got started right away. I printed out the lessons for each of the kids and put them in a 3-ring binder for them to get started.
What I love about Grapevine Studies is that the content for both kids bible study is the same. In this case, The Resurrection. Then, they each have their own student sheets to stick figure through.
We read the lesson from our Bible. Our oldest usually does the reading unless I do. Then we discuss it and work through the lesson. My son isn’t a strong reader or writer and really doesn’t like to write so the Student Traceable option is a great one for him. He doesn’t have to fight through determining what to draw and it makes the lesson go smoothly. My artistic 5th grader loves drawing so she finds drawing the stick figures fun.If you aren’t familiar with Grapevine Studies, the company give your family a fun way to do kids bible study by drawing stick figures of something that is happening in the story that is being studies. This is to help the student remember and embed the Bible story. Kids bible study can be fun when you drawing stick figures about the characters! Now, I admit, when I first checked out Grapevine Studies, I didn’t see how drawing stick figures would do anything to “enrich” our kids bible study time but….I was wrong.
But once you see what Grapevine Studies has to offer, you will see that it’s much more than drawing stick figures. It’s a way to engage your student with the lesson, have them thinking about the point of a passage or a story and then drawing about what they heard, what they retained, without feeling pressure to perfectly draw something. Stick figure drawing takes the pressure off the statement – draw me a picture about what you just learned, or other similar notebooking styles.
The Resurrection is a great study the last week of Jesus’ life. Reading through the Bible stories and talking about what happened to Jesus in his final week for earthly life, your kids will learn more about what Easter is all about. The lessons begin with The Last Supper and ends with Jesus and his disciples and Jesus’ instructions to them before He ascended into heaven. This has been a perfect study for our family as we move through Lent.
There are 11 weekly lessons or 22 daily lessons in the Resurrection study. We usually spent about 15-20 minutes a day on the lesson, which is very minimal but full of information and depth.
The Resurrection: Beginner Student is stated to be for Kindergarten; however, it is easily used with whatever level you would like. These are very easy to structure toward your student’s individual need. My 5th grader used it and was fine. There is room for the stick figure drawings, discussion questions listed at the end along with a Bible Verse to memorize. The Resurrection: Beginner Student Traceable is exactly the same as the Beginner Student except that the boxes are filled in with the stick figures for the student to trace. Since we were doing this lesson together I felt that it should be at my 1st graders level so we used this Beginning Student level and it was very good for us.
I like that the Traceable version is available for many of Grapevine Studies kids bible study options because this makes it easy for me to do the Bible study with my kids together even though there is a significant difference in their ages. The Resurrection: Beginner Teacher gives you everything you need, including pictures of the stick figure drawings and discussion question answers to teach the lesson to your children with essentially no preparation.
The lessons are short, easy to manage, require no preparation on my part, and the kids enjoy them. AND RETAIN THEM! The system really works!
