We have been working on our handwriting and cursive for a while. Recently we learned about Homeschool Copywork and were given the opportunity to review the Homeschool Copywork Lifetime Membership and this has been a great product to use in our handwriting/copywork studies.
As a classical home, copywork is important. We use it regularly. It not only works on handwriting practice, but teaches paying attention to the writing and grammar styles of good works. Homeschool Copywork has provided a great product for using this in our homeschool.
What is Homeschool Copywork
Homeschool Copywork is a website designed by a fellow homeschooling mom who wanted to provide quality copywork and notebooking pages to be used in her homeschooling. She offers a large variety of copywork for use in your homeschool as well as notebooking pages. And the copywork is available from pre-writers to high school, which I think is great. Be sure to read the article on the Homeschool Copywork website about what copywork is and how it can be used in your homeschool here.
What is a Lifetime Membership to Homeschool Copywork
There is a free membership to the Homeschool Copywork website where you can get a sample of some of the products that Homeschool Copywork has to offer. There is also an annual membership available if you aren’t ready to commit to the Lifetime membership but want to give the full site a try.
I love the variety of the Lifetime Membership though. The Lifetime Membership is available and allows you to use ALL the products that Homeschool Copywork has to offer for your whole family. As I mentioned, there are products for pre-readers as well as copywork for Early Elementary, Upper Elementary, Middle School and High School.
Most of the products are authored by the creator of Homeschool Copywork, Amy Blevins; however, there is copywork available from other authors like Annette Breedlove and Bonnie Rose Hudson. (You may recognize some of those names if you have been homeschooling for a while.)
What Kind of Copywork is Available
Homeschool Copywork has a variety of copywork available for every level as well as every type of writer. What do I mean by that? Well, if you are working on standard manuscript printing, there is copywork for that, or if you are working on cursive, there is copywork that specializes in that. In addition, many of the copywork books have pages available for every level. For instance, The Mozart Quotes from Composers by Annette Breedlove is a collection of quotes from Mozart. Each quote is available to be traced in manuscript for the beginning writer, printed below on lines in standard manuscript as well as D’Nealian Manuscript, and copied below in cursive. These all have dotted lines for the beginning writer. Then the quote is available to be copied on a single line in both manuscript or cursive. So, no matter what type of writing you are teaching in your homeschool, Homeschool Copywork has copywork that you can use.
How We Used it and What We Thought
We were pleasantly surprised by the variety and sheer quantity of the copywork available from Homeschool Copywork. We started with the Greatest of These 1 Corinthians 13 Cursive copywork by Amy Blevins. What my daughter loved about this copywork is that it had a cute picture to color on each page. So she did her copywork and then had the opportunity to color a little picture. And it wasn’t a huge picture so it was a nice little coloring break but didn’t take a long time. She really enjoyed that and liked the lovely 1 Corinthian 13 sentences that she got to copy for her handwriting practice.
We started my 1st grader with the Transportation Copywork for PreK-1st. He really liked this as the sentences were short and it was all about one of his favorite things – transportation vehicles. The coloring included is a nice addition, though my son isn’t a huge lover of coloring, but this did keep his attention a little since he loved the vehicles.
We also used the Van Gogh Notebooking pages to coordinate with our study of famous artist, particularly Van Gogh, this semester. My daughter liked that the notebooking pages had a small color picture of the artists work right on the page. The only thing I would have liked would have been a citation of the name of the artwork. Since they were not labeled, she struggled a little to find some of the names of the works when choosing which ones to work on.
There is a large variety of Copywork and a decent variety of notebooking and even some coloring pages to go along with some of the copywork that is available through Homeschool Copywork. Some of the Early Elementary Copywork includes Character Building Copywork, Armour of God Copywork, copywork of quotes from several composers, and Wilbur and Orville Wright Copywork. The Upper Elementary Copywork features Looking Upward: Quotes by Emily Bronte for Copywork, The Poems of Lewis Carroll, and Star Spangled Banner Copywork. The High School Copywork includes copywork like Amazing Grace Hymn Study and Copywork, Duke Ellington Quotes for Copywork, and Franz Liszt Quotes for Copywork.
Overall, we were very pleased with Homeschool Copywork. The variety is great. The fact that you can use it for all age groups is a plus. And the quality is very nice. We will certainly continue to use this in our homeschool.
