Sunya is a fun game to help your students learn their addition and subtraction facts through fun math and science facts and riddles. The game has a unique game book, number cards (60) and fact and riddle cards (30). The Sunya – The Magic and Wonder of Math and Science Adding & Subtracting has it’s own instructional booklet as well. The game is designed for ages 7 and up. Children just learning their math facts are encouraged to play with an adult or older sibling until they have a good grasp of addition and subtraction skills. The game goes up to addition facts of 9+9=18 and subtraction facts of 18-9=9.
Sunya also has a game for practicing multiplication and division – Sunya – The Magic and Wonder of Math and Science Multiplication & Division. This is played in similar manner but address the uniqueness of multiplication and division rather than addition and subtraction. The multiplication and division game is designed for ages 9 and up. The multiplication facts go up to 9×9=81 and division facts up to 81/9=9.
We used this game as a family game to work on the addition and subtraction skills with our 6 year old son. However, our 11 year old daughter also played the game and worked on her addition and subtraction skills.
I was sent an instructional booklet that was printed in gray scale with a color front and back cover. I liked that these were color to show the product and options. The gray scale instructions were very easy to read and I personally did not feel that color instructions would have provided any value added to the product, but I definitely liked the color front and back covers. What I would have liked would have been some more examples, in pictorial format, of what a deal for the game looked like or the game being played.
The instructional booklet was complete but a little hard to understand at the first time reading it; but otherwise, I liked that it provided different levels of play within the same instructional booklet.
There are several game options within the instruction books. This provides different games to play with the science and math cards. There are also instructions on playing with young learners giving families an option for using the cards with beginning learners that are not ready for math fact practice. Additionally, a “magic” game suggestion is provided in the instructional book.
We used Sunya – The Magic and Wonder of Math and Science Adding & Subtracting as a family and played together with my 6 year old son and my 11 year daughter. Both had a good time playing the game. They actually both preferred the science cards, thinking they were fun.
The science cards were fun and the children liked those games. However, I liked that we could use the cards to work on word problem sentences. My 6 year old liked making math sentences. He did enjoy the sense of accomplishment in making a correct one.
