We recently had the opportunity to review Forbrain – Sound For Life Ltd, a new device for Forbrain to help individuals enhance language and learning skills.
What is Forbrain
Forbrain is a product of Sound For Life Ltd which is a Hong Kong based company that has specialized in the development of products that support cognitive skills. Their mission is to provide customers with tools that will boost the brain through the use of the voice.
What We Received
The Forbrain came in a carrying case with accessories and was easy to use. It was professionally packages. Here is what we received:
- Forbrain headset unit
- Hard case to store and carry the Forbrain headset and accessories
- Charging cable (USE to micro USB cable)
- 3 spare mic covers
- User manual
- Quick state guide
- 2 year warranty
The foam storage case was very well made and fits the Forbrain well to minimalize the chance of damage when in the case. All the manuals and accessories can be stored in the case. Initial charging took about 2 hours and then it was ready to use.
Using the Forbrain headset was easy. You just charge it, turn it on, put it on, and speak. I was a little worried that it would be difficult to wear for my son because he is so small but, even though it appears to be a little large, it seems to still work effectively for him. The mic is adjustable and easy for the child to do himself.
My son was a little confused that the earphones went in FRONT of him ears (on the bone in front of the ear) and not IN his ears, but this is exactly how it’s supposed to be worn. Since Forbrain works with vibration, the ear bone is the correct positioning and he was able to get used to it with no trouble. There was no issue with my daughter or me wearing the device. It fit us all.
There is a small light on the headset that is blue when it is charging and turns red when it is full charged, which is helpful when you are waiting for it to charge to be able to use it again. When the Forbrain headset is in the correct position you hear yourself clearly and feel a slight vibration.
Recommended use of Forbrain is daily for best results. It is recommended that students from 5-15 use the devise approximately 15 minutes a day and teens and adults can use for 20 minutes per day.
Forbrain states that the device can be used for the following:
- Attend and focus difficulties
- Auditory Processing Disorders
- Reading difficulties
- Memory work
- Speech and Fluency
- Strengthening auditory reception and processing
- Clarifying speech and communication
- Speech and language development
- Improve attention and memory
How We Used Forbrain
Now I’m one to look at the reports and studies supporting something that has such high claims. And Forbrain has the studies and documentation to back it up. There are many studies that have been conducted or are currently in process. This pdf tells a lot of about the Forbrain scientific evaluation. It is important to mention that Forbrain does not claim to be a “cure” for any of the learning disabilities they state they can help; however, they do state they are a “tool” to assist in current progress and therapy.
Even if you do not have a learning disability or speech issue, Forbrain is helpful in training your brain and keeping your focus. Anyone can benefit from Forbrain.
My son said “It is fun to use. It’s like I’m in space.” Whatever works to motivate him to read, right?
My daughter said, “I can better block out all the other noise and concentrate and hearing the mistakes I make in my speech makes it easier to correct them.”
What do I say? Forbrain has helped my daughter be less distracted and therefore more productive as well as keep her focused on self-correction on her speech. My son will sit and read to me without complaint when wearing Forbrain and he is doing a better job at his sight words and sounding out of words. So, I give Forbrain a positive endorsement and look forward to trying it with our Classical Conversations memory work this next year.
