My son loves the Interactive A Workbook from ABeCeDarian Company because he gets to play on the Kindle. He thinks anything he can do on her Kindle is fun so….this works out nicely. We have no trouble taking some time to do some decoding and reading with the Interactive A Workbook on our Kindle.
What is ABeCeDarian Company
The ABeCeDarian Company is the published of the ABeCeDarian Reading Program that is a multi-sensory and comprehensive “decoding” program to teach phonemic awareness, phonics and reading fluency. The earlier grades are great for teaching beginning readers, struggling readers and student with special needs. The upper level programs make for an excellent word study. The program is available for schools and homeschoolers.
What is the ABeCeDarian Interactive A Workbook
The ABeCeDarian Interactive A Workbook covers all the same lessons and activities from the printed Workbooks A1 and A2 in an interactive format. The spelling words, handwriting practice, puzzles and decoding exercises are in the Interactive workbook for practice on the Kindle with the touch of the screen.
The ABeCeDarian Company states that the ABeCeDarian Interactive A Workbook is designed to be used with the support and engagement of the parent or teacher same as they would should they be using the printed materials. However, with the Interactive A Workbook, the student will then complete the exercises on their electronic devise. The Interactive A Workbook can be used as a supplement to the printed program or in replacement of the printed workbook.
The ABeCeDarian Interactive A Workbook is for students that are non-readers or very beginning readers and need to develop a good foundation for reading. In Level A, the lessons focus on combining sounds (blending), sound segmenting, letter/sound correspondences, reading and spelling. Lessons progress to include two-letter combinations such as sh, ch, th, and ck. There in an electronic Teacher’s Manual available to guide the parents or teacher through teaching the lessons. Additionally the Storybooks for Level A are also available in digital format, which are necessary for completion of the Level A program.
When students have completed Level A, he or she will be able to read more than 100 words and text at rates of 40 or more words correct in a minute. The ABeCeDarian Company has printed materials available to proceed through Level D (which is 5th or 6th grade).
How We used ABeCeDarian Interactive A Workbook
The electronic Teachers Manual is available through the ABeCeDarian Company website and can be used to teach from. Typically, I would sit on the couch with my son and I would go through the Teacher’s Manual on my phone while he had the Interactive A Workbook on his Kindle. I would read through the lesson and he would work on the workbook on his Kindle. We would work for 15-30 minutes at a time, depending upon his grasp and attention span that day. It was very easy to use and my son found writing with his finger more fun that writing with a pencil.
The workbook is interactive and does not “save” your work so you can reuse the workbook with other children. This is a plus AND a minus in that you have to note where you left off in a lesson because it wouldn’t be there the next time.
The Teachers Manual was very easy to use and basically “scripted” so it is truly and “open and go” approach to teaching the lessons. This made it easy to sit down, cuddle up and go through the lessons together.
The Readers are essential to the program and also available electronically. We read these on the Kindle as well and could easy navigate to them. They are required for completing the program and easy to use with good illustrations to make them interesting to the student.
Overall, we liked the ease of use, the number of activities per lesson and the fact that it was scripted for ease of use. My son liked to work on the Kindle and write with his finger and I liked that he didn’t complain about sitting at the table to work on reading. I think the program is a win-win!
