We love to add new Christmas books to our December reading list. Of course, we love the classics and always read them together; however, finding a new book, something that we will love to read each year, is a treat. And this year, thanks to Zonderkidz, we have a new favorite to read this year –Christmas Love Letters from God: Bible Stories.
Christmas Love Letters from God: Bible Stories, by Glenys Nellist and illustrated by Rachel Clowes, is a beautiful story of Jesus’ birth told through 7 stories beginning with Isaiah’s prophecy and ending with the wise men and their visit to the manager to see the baby Jesus. Each story is easy to read, beautifully illustrated, colorful and a letter from God. Each letter from God is folded in a small envelope that is attached to the last page of the story. There is a space to write your child’s name to that it is address to your child. He or she can read a letter from God to them. The letters are written as if God is speaking directly to your child. A Bible verse, called God’s Perfect Promise, accompanies the story and letter, making the story special and personalized.
The stories are written for ages 4 through 8; however, read as a family, all ages will enjoy hearing the Christmas story, reading the Bible verses, and reading the personalized letter from God. The stories are classic Bible stories leading up and around the birth of Jesus so really, no age can grow tired of listening to these special stories. The illustrations are very colorful and beautiful and accompany the story.
My older daughter, age 11, really enjoyed reading it to her younger siblings. This made it very special for her. We always love finding books that she can read to her brothers and sister. It makes for a wonderful, bonding experience for her with her siblings, which we all love.
The stories in the book included:
- Isaiah’s Good New
- Mary’s Song
- Joseph’s Dream
- Bethlehem’s Road
- Jesus Joy!
- Shepherd’s Surprise
- Wise Men’s Wonder
The stories are each just a few pages, easy to read, and a wonderful read for the whole family. The letters from God are affixed to the book, folded like a letter and easy to read.
Overall, we really thought this was a nice book for the Christmas season. The stories were well-written, pretty, easy to read, and the kids really enjoyed them. I think it is a great addition to our Christmas book list and would make a wonderful Christmas gift for any young child or family with younger kids.
