Are you a Classical Conversations family? Even if you are not, you might LOVE these history and science resources for your homeschool. Â In the second half of our Classical Conversations school year we will be studying Physic in Science and from the Industrial Revolution to the Cold War in History. Â This means lot of questions from my son about the wars we will be talking about. You know… World War I, World War II, Vietnam, Korea, the Cold War. These will come up and I will need to be prepared for questions.
In Science, there will be lots about Physics and Newton’s Laws and I would like to be prepared there too. Mostly because it’s been a LONG time since I sat in my college Physics class sleeping, I mean, taking notes!
So here are some great books, some of which we will be giving for Christmas, to go along with our 2nd half of our Classical Conversations Cycle 2 year.
#1 –Â You Wouldn’t Want to Be a World War II Pilot!: Air Battles You Might Not Survive
 – These are actually great, simple introductions to the time period. The Cold War can be difficult to explain (unless, of course, you were there living it and then it STILL is probably a little difficult) but this Simple History book explains the time periods from the end of WW2 through the space race including the key players, the Warsaw Pact, the Bay of Pigs, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Vietnam War, the Berlin Wall coming down, and the fall of the Soviet Union (and many more). It’s really JAM PACKED with history pertinent to CC Cycle 2.  We will probably be referring to it regularly. There are several in this series too including The Vietnam War, both World Wars, and many others. Check them out by clicking the link and looking at other books by the same author.
 – This book from National Geographic is a great book about Isaac Newton and who he is. It is colorful and we have really enjoyed several other of the books in this National Geographic series.  If you are looking to dive a little deeper into who Isaac Newton was, this is a great reference. I love these books because they are easy to read and understand and both my school-aged kids love looking at them and reading them, learning something interesting about Isaac Newton. However, if you would like a book with more at-home experiments to accompany your CC Cycle 2, you should check out Isaac Newton and Physics for Kids: His Life and Ideas with 21 Activities which is full of pictures and do-it-yourself physics experiments.
 – If you are looking for a book to go through the basics of Physics, you should check out this book. It defines the basic terms in physics like Matter, Weight, Mass, Speed and Acceleration as well and discussing the basics of Waves, Light, Atom and Nuclear physics. It is colorful and explained in basic terms. Designed for grades 4-8, if you are reading it aloud, it is still good for younger and an excellent introduction for a student who hasn’t had much exposure to Physics.
