ArtAchieve Helps Kids Develop Art Skills
ArtAchieve is an online resource for high-quality art lessons for kids. Offering video-based lessons or lessons in PowerPoint, the lessons are based on art from around the world. The lessons are formatted to inspired a cross-cultural, cross-curriculum approach to art. Each lesson includes a warm-up exercise to allow the student to begin working on a section of the art project hey are about to explore and complete and includes some beautiful music written by Artur Atsma to help your art student relax and move through the art lessons to their final project.
You can read our review of ArtAchieve Level I here. We enjoyed this and continued with our art lessons and now, in this review, we were able to review Level III of ArtAchieve.
Complete Lessons for Every Level
Each lesson begins with the original object that the student will be using for their art lesson. A list of supplies is included as well as a set of “rules” for the lesson. The “rules” are for that perfectionist student that wishes their final project to look like the demonstrated final project. I have one of those kids so this is a great extra.
A warm-up exercise is included with each lesson. The student practices a part of the technique or section of the project to help them prepare for the final lesson and project. The warm-ups are printed out by the student or the teachers/parent before the lessons. It is recommended that the warm ups be completed by the student in fine tipped black magic marker. This helps the student commit to their project and not drawn, erase, and draw again, which is common with beginning artists. ArtAchieve states that the use of the fine tipped magic marker helps the artist develop confidence in their abilities.
Next, the student has the option of a video-based lesson or a PowerPoint slide lesson to complete the project. The guided, step-by-step lesson for drawing the object is easy to follow. Since the videos are easy to pause, the student can pause and work on a section as long as needed before moving on to the next part of the lesson. There is still room for the individual artistic license in the projects and this is talked about in the lessons.
Easy for any Teacher to Use
One of the great things about ArtAchieve is that it is easy to use, even if you are not the artsy type (like me). There is a Tips for Teachers section that helps the teacher help the student achieve success with the ArtAchieve program. It includes tips like
- Do ask students what they think of their own work
- Do not draw on a student’s paper
- Do not allow students to start over if they say the made a “mistake”
- Do remind students there is no wrong way to draw.
There are tips on how to evaluate the art lesson, dealing with “mistakes,” and even what to do if you have a student in tears. The FAQ section answers some very common questions about teaching art and using the ArtAchieve program, including where to start and where to find supplies.
Free Art Lessons for Kids
You can even try a free art lesson with your kids to see if ArtAchieve is for you. There are several to choose from Level I. This really gives you a chance to see the unique layout of these lessons. There are also some great resources available on the ArtAchieve website to supplement and help with your art lessons including a link to an art history game and a link to a Europeana Collection of art with over 54,000,000 pieces of artwork, videos, books etc from across Europe.
Reliable and Affordable Lessons for Every Level
ArtAchieve has art lessons from Level I, Level II, Level III, Level IV, and Level V available on their website to accommodate almost any level of art learning you are looking for. You can purchase individual lessons, entire levels of lessons, or even bundles of lessons. The visual tie to geography, history, literature and other subjects tie the art to these subjects with their global art presentation.
Each level contains between 8 and 15 lessons and when bundled together for purchase, you save on the price of the entire level. There are also mini bundles of 3 lessons priced at a discount if you want to try more than one lesson at a time but aren’t ready to purchase an entire level. You can also purchase the entire curriculum, including access to all lessons at all levels for a discounted price that is a 30% savings from purchasing the lesson individually.
