We recently received the Annual Membership Plan of My School Year Homeschool Record Keeping and I have been using it to track plan out our new school year.
We reviewed My School Year Homeschool Record Keeping in 2016 (you can read the review here) and there have been some very significant updates to the subscription. A lot of upgrades actually!
What is My School Year Homeschool Record Keeping
What homeschool mom isn’t thinking about the importance of record-keeping? Record-keeping is important for most homeschoolers. Regardless of your state requirements, it is vital to keep good records for attendance at a minimum but, as your students get older, keeping records is imperative to being able to provide a solid transcript.
My School Year Homeschool Record Keeping is a resource that helps all homeschoolers keep track of their student’s records, classes, activities, and more. It is a tool that every homeschooler can use, regardless of the number of students they have or the grade that they are in.
Available for use on the computer or on any smart device, My School Year Homeschool Record Keeping can track what you need. Used primarily by the parent, the interface is fairly intuitive. Though there is still a learning curve when beginning to use the program, there are built-in wizards to help you plan and video tutorials to help you learn the functions and features of My School Year Homeschool Record Keeping. There is even online and phone support available for subscribers to help ensure you are maximizing your subscription. See all the things that are included with your subscription (good as of 08/2019)
You can start with a Free Trial, which is always available. This will give you the opportunity to set up an account and see if using the program is for you. However, I will say that a free trial may not be long enough to help you truly learn everything and determine if its a good fit for you. But give it a try.
Subscribe to your free trial (or new account) and get going on your computer or smart device. You set up your students, get their grades and school dates entered and you can begin. Though parents may grant their student’s access to utilize My School Year as well.
If tracking classes for your older students, you have the opportunity to enter the credit hours that will be awarded for the completion of the course. You can even make a transcript with the program that will look professional for use.
Parents and students can use the program to track to-do lists, extracurricular activities, chores, and even home repairs. There is so much you can do with the program, so much more than tracking attendance and planning classes.
Planning and Tracking
There are numerous planning, tracking, and reporting features within the program. You can easily track attendance manually or automatically. The automatic tracking feature allows you to have the students automatically tracked for attendance for all classes on days entered into the planner. This is a great feature to allow you to have a wonderful end-of-the-year attendance report for your students without having to manually track them each day. Just have the auto-track function track their attendance and then manually edit the attendance when you have a day off or a sick day (both of these classifications are available within the program.)
The Daily Agenda is a nice feature. Once you are set up in your program, you can view the daily agenda for each student or all your students in one lovely display. This is a great feature for being able to see what’s going on with your students or view your schedule each day.
Parents and students can receive daily texts or emails alerting to assignments due or lessons planned for the day. When planning the lessons, you can easily copy them to other students providing ease of use within the program.
My School Year Homeschool Record Keeping can be accessed not only by a computer, but other devices, and smartphones. Once you purchase your membership you can watch videos with navigating the site. I would recommend you watch the tutorial videos first.
Reading Logs are another feature that is easy to use in the program. You can assign readings as well as when it is to be read and when the book is due. You can even assign the reading level for easy search for books to assign again. We are using it to track all the books we are reading this year. Having a complete reading log is a good way to track annual progress.
Reports
There are numerous reports that can be produced from within the program. Whether you need an attendance report, a list of what extracurricular activities have been completed, or a list of volunteer hours completed, My School Year Homeschool Record Keeping can produce these reports from information that has been entered and tracked within the program.
Extra-curricular activities can be tracked in My School Year Homeschool Record Keeping as well. You can run reports at any time to indicate all the extracurricular activities each student is doing or what you have going on during a specific time of year.
Since most people need to track attendance you can easily view attendance within the program to make sure that you are on track for your year. Again, with manual or auto-tracking attendance, it is easy to track attendance and make sure you are meeting your annual attendance requirements for each of your students. At the end of the year, the report will be helpful if you live somewhere where you have to provide an attendance report at the end of the year. These professional reports will look great in your portfolio.
Overall
There were definitely some great changes and upgrades since the 2016 review of the program. The program is much easier to use and includes a LOT of great features. The reports and print outs are much better quality and the ease of use on the computer, as well as the addition of mobile use, is a plus. Overall, I would say that My School Year Homeschool Record Keeping has made some wonderful changes and is a great homeschool record keeping option for most families.
