My daughter enjoys working on her reading skills with 240 Essential Reading Skills for Kindergarten, one of the workbooks, from Reading Eggs.
What is Reading Eggs?
Reading Eggs is an online program recommended for ages 2 to 13 to help children learn the fundamentals necessary to develop reading skills. Online reading lessons work in sequential order to develop reading skills from an age-appropriate level. Reading Eggs says that your student will be reading in just 4 weeks of their online program lessons.
Additionally, Reading Eggs has a Math program called MathSeeds which works on the development of math skills. Working from the beginning with counting, the program works up through age appropriate levels to develop a strong math foundation.
Both programs also have to accompany and coordinating physical workbooks that can be used to reinforce the grade-level appropriate math and reading skills that students need to develop and succeed.
Kindergarten Workbook
The 240 Essential Reading Skills for Kindergarten workbook is a wonderful stand-alone curriculum or addition to your Reading egg online subscription. We received the workbook to use and used it as a stand-alone program during our homeschool day.
The 240 Essential Reading Skills for Kindergarten workbook provides parents and teachers with a Yearly Planner in the front of the workbook to help you see what will be covered and what needs to completed daily or weekly in order to work through all the lessons.
The lessons are very colorful. The instructions are provided for each section, which I read to my daughter since she cannot read yet. There is a variety of activities to work on the theme of the lessons. For instance, at the beginning of the Kindergarten workbook, there is a letter of the alphabet introduced with each lesson then there are activities to reinforce the letter and its sounds.
At the end of each lesson is a section that shows how the lesson corresponds to what is being covered in the online Reading Eggs subscription (or app). Your student can check off if they have completed the corresponding lessons online. They can mark if their online egg hatched. They get to draw a face on the empty face under the review box. And lastly, they can say whether they read the corresponding Reading Eggs books that are suggested with each lesson.
Each lesson is 2 to 4 pages in length, very appropriate length for a Kindergarten student. And the variety of activities was great for this age. My daughter really enjoyed the range of activities covered in the lessons.
Obviously, you do not have to do these. Since we did not do it along with the online Reading Eggs subscription, we simply colored in the coin when we completed the lesson and drew a face on the empty face regarding how we felt about how well the lessons went. My daughter liked that party.
At the end of the workbook, a certificate is provided in the workbook to fill out to indicate completion of the program.
You can see in this video some of the ways that Reading Eggs can help in your homeschool.
Overall (and a free offer)
Overall, we really liked the 240 Essential Reading Skills for Kindergarten workbook and my daughter enjoyed the activities. She looked forward to the lessons and it was easy for her to work through them on her own once she understood the direction. I would definitely use Reading Eggs workbooks again.
In addition to the workbook, the Reading Eggs program online is a great way for your student to learn to read. Reading Eggs is being very generous and giving my readers a 4 week trial of the Readings Eggs online program.
