Have you heard of Classical Conversations? You probably have if you have been around the homeschool world for any amount of time. Maybe you have considered it. Maybe you have gone by the CC booth at a Homeschool Convention. Maybe you have stalked some blogs and tried to understand it.
No matter where you are in the process, if you haven’t heard of Classical Conversations, or taken the time to attend an Information Meeting, you really should check it out (you can click on this link to find a Classical Conversations Information meeting near you.)
However, if you are wondering why Classical Conversations is such a great choice for so many families, you may be interested in the 5 reasons we homeschool with Classical Conversations. I thought I would share what CC does for us and why we are in our 6th year homeschooling with Classical Conversations.
#1 – COMMUNITY for both my children and for me. The community that Classical Conversations provides is really a big seller for us. I love that that we have classmates each week for my kids to hang out with. And for me, i have the opportunity to develop friendships with the other moms. Community day provides a much needed time for my kids to be with friends learning together while providing me with time to discuss all homeschooling and parenting related things. It’s wonderful!
#2 – COMPLETE – Classical Conversations is everything you need planned out for you (except for Math, you have to add a math curriculum around 3rd grade). Every week, we get to community, learn our material together, do science experiments, art and music, and then come home to work on and continue with the topics we learned in community. And since all the kids are learning the same material (grades K4 through 6th), it makes multi-grade learning so much less stressful.
#3- CREATIVITY – Classical Conversations provides the kids with the room to be creative in their learning. It is wonderful. They can be creative in the music and art, and in how they learn and express themselves.
#4 – CLASSICAL – Yes, as it implied, it’s classical. We cover Fine Arts, Classic Literature, Rhetoric. There is rigor. God is intertwined with everything. It is a beautiful blend and so great for the family.
#5 – CONTROL – Though they are in a class once a week, I still have the final determination over their school, what they learn, and what we focus on. I’m still their teacher.
We started with Classical Conversations when my oldest daughter was 6. She is now 15 and in Challenge 1 (the first level of Classical Conversations high school) and it is wonderful the education that she is receiving and Classical Conversations has paved the way.
If you haven’t checked out Classical Conversations, this is the time of year to find an Information Meeting and see what Classical Conversations is all about. You can visit the Classical Conversations website and find your nearest community. Maybe you’ll find it to be the right fit for your family.
