We received had the opportunity to review an advanced copy of Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 9 from the creator of VeggieTales, Phil Vischer. A fun, puppet adventure for the whole family, Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 9 is about the adventures of Buck Denver and his What’s in the Bible? friends.
Like all of Phil Vischer’s work, the message of the movie is one of God’s love and purpose in our lives. Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 9 is a wonderfully fun tale as Buck Denver in search of doing “big things for God.” He feels that his work for God is not big enough and he must do something bigger to fulfill his purpose in life. His dream is to spread the word of God to every corner of the universe. He just wants a chance to lead a mission to do so.
When he finally gets the chance to lead a mission, he realizes it isn’t as easy as he thought it would be. Along his galaxy venture, Buck travels with his friends and meets some new characters that ultimately teach him that there are “jellyfish and sharks” and not everyone can be a shark but all were created by God and it’s ok to be who we are as long as we are working for the Glory of God. Buck learns that his life is full of purpose even if he isn’t doing the biggest jobs. Buck learns that you have to trust everything to God – even your dreams.
Along Buck’s journey, which takes him in a spaceship and into outer space, there are fun references to Star Wars and Star Trek that made the movie enjoyable for adults as well. As a family of Star Wars and Star Trek fans, these references were fun and even my 6 year old noted the references throughout. This made the movie fun for the whole family as well.
Overall, we were impressed with the film and the film’s message. Like all Phil Vischer’s work, the message was great and the movie was full of great references to God and his word and spreading God’s word.
Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 9 is a fun, family-friendly film that delivers an excellent message to the young and old alike – that we all have a purpose in our lives to spread God’s word and even the little things matter.
