You can read my previous review of Under Drake’s Flag from Heirloom Audio. And I’m happy to report that Beric The Briton was just as riveting.
Heirloom Audio produces quality, audio CD’s on a variety of topics that make history come to life. In this case, we travel to the British Isles and Rome to hear the exciting story of Beric the Briton, which takes place in the 1st century. Based on the G.A. Henty novel, Beric The Briton is part of the series called “The Extraordinary Adventures of G.A. Henty.” Each of the books in the series are about great people taking on difficult times during history. In this case, Beric the Briton takes of the powerful Roman government during the tumultuous time in history.
The 2-CD set is a high-quality audio drama with over 2 hours of listening. With a cast of voices, the story comes to life. You will recognize some of the cast that recorded on this story. (You can listen to some excerpts on the Beric the Briton website.) It is easy to listen and enjoyable for all ages. The whole family REALLY enjoyed listening to the story. We listened in the car when we went on a trip and we had trouble taking a break from the story to get out of the car for lunch. Everyone want to keep listening a little longer.
One of the best qualities of Heirloom CDs, in my opinion, is the amazing sound quality. You can get lost in the story, it sounds so real!
The sound effects and music make it seem you are experiencing the story.
We love to listen to audiobooks and typically do not use them for study materials, only to supplement an area like history or just add quality literature to our day. However, if you are so inclined, Heirloom is not providing access to a digital, downloadable eStudy Guide to accompany their stories. What I think is really great about this eStudy guide is that the tracks are right on the guide so it’s easy to use and see where you on in the story.
The guide helps the parents and the student work on comprehension of the story and work through appropriate discussion questions. It is also full of activities and supplements including a Bible study that corresponds with the story.
The downloadable extras also include a .mp3 version of the soundtrack and a printable poster of the quote by Julius from the story “I will gladly die for him who died for me.”
Overall, we were impressed with the story Beric The Briton as well as the quality of the CD. As usual, Heirloom Audio did not disappoint in delivering a great product that the whole family enjoyed!
