We recently had the opportunity to review Captain Absolutely, a comic book by Wooten Z Bassett from Focus On The Family, and the kids can’t get enough.
Can you buy the next one mom?
Are there more?
Read it again!
These are the comments that my kids made once Captain Absolutely arrived at our house. And, frankly, I would love to see more!
Captain Absolutely is more than a comic book.
Captain Absolutely is the adventure of a mild-mannered librarian who, after a freak accident in the library, and some entanglement with some radioactive fumes of course, turns into a superhero like no other. Fighting for truth and justice WITH truth, God’s truth that is, Captain Absolutely solves all kinds of problems while battling his nemesis, Dr Relative.
Beautiful Illustrations!
Illustrated by Dennis Edwards, Captain Absolutely: Battle Against Dr. Relative helps children learn to stand firm in the faith in God in today’s tumultuous world. It was a 5-year project by Dennis Edwards and the author, Wooten Z Bassett and was published 2 pages at a time in the Clubhouse Magazine from Focus On The Family.
The final outcome of this project? A 105-page, full color, Christian adventure comic book. It is loaded with Biblical worldview and lots of great passages. The story of Josiah is amazing. As he is trapped in a room of Bibles, and reads Gods word for the first time, he is filled with the Word of God. As the story unfolds, Captain Absolutely shows the reader how they can arm themselves with God’s Word to face and battle life’s challenges and answer some of the tough life questions.
Apparently, Captain Absolutely is quite a hit!
We had the funniest thing happen with our Captain Absolutely book. So, we received it right before we went to testing with our oldest. I was reading this out loud to my 7 year old son at home the day before. The test instructions stated that the students should bring a book to read so my 12 year old asked if she could take Captain Absolutely. I said “Absolutely” of course LOL
Anyway, so the next day we went to the test and my daughter had the book. When I came to pick her up she was sitting reading it and was almost through the entire book. The next day, day 2 of testing, we were the first to arrive. After she checked in and went into the room for testing, I was standing chatting with some of the other mothers as more test takers arrived. I looked in on my daughter and 2 boys were leaning over the book trying to read over her shoulder. I made a comment to one of the proctor and she said that the day before one of the boys kept asking if he could ready her book during his break. The proctor had to keep telling him that my daughter would probably like to read her own book on her breaks. (Ha!)
So, she finished the book before testings started and before I left one of the boys had borrowed the book and started reading it!
Overall, the whole family loved the book. The beautiful illustrations, the great story, the wonderful Biblical references, and the funny story makes Captain Absolutely a great choice for the whole family.
